Live Nude Girls

Live Nude Girls
It would be impossible to write a review of this film without discussing the title. How many viewers will see Julianna Lavin's feature debut because it's called Live Nude Girls? And how many will avoid it for the same reason? There's little doubt that the title was chosen for its provocative value, because, although the movie deals with live girls, they're mostly clothed. While there are bared breasts and discreetly-photographed limbs and torsos, most of the nakedness in this picture is of the emotional, not the physical, variety.

Transmorphers: Fall of Man
A worldwide robot alien invasion lays waste to civilization as we know it forcing pockets of human survivors to seek shelter anywhere. The might of military powers prove impotent in their counterattack. The Russians manage to capture one of these robots and successfully tortures it into giving up its secrets. Small bands of resistance fighters try unsuccessfully to fight back. Survivors forced underground by a poisonous gas that has spread across the globe. There's a hell of a movie going on in Transmorphers: Fall of Man; too bad most of it is occurring off-camera. We hear about it. We see little of it.

Notorious Bettie Page

Notorious Bettie Page
The Notorious Bettie Page is one good looking movie about one good looking dame. It tells of the career of '50s pin-up queen Bettie Page (Gretchen Mol), who was the object of countless masturbatory fantasies in the pre-Playboy era. Despite being a straightforward bio-pic, The Notorious Bettie Page is more than just a tasty morsel of eye candy. The film takes a little time to explore the political landscape of the time, and features an Oscar-worthy lead performance.

RoboDoc
“Robodoc” the name itself reveals the plot behind the movie. The movie is all about a robot which is a doctor with a human finish on the outside. This movie is a satire on the doctors and the medicine field else what could be said of a movie that is so insane, has its share of vulgar acts and not to mention few semi-nude scenes. The movie begins with a sleazy lawyer Attorney Jake Gorman (Kenny Babel) whose only job and motive is to sue the medical fraternity and the doctors in particular. The main hospital affected by Jake’s actions is the North Mercy hospital where the doctors keep leaving after cases of negligence gets filed on them.

Saint John of Las Vegas
Let's see if I can get through this entire review -- about a guy with a gambling problem - without employing gambling jargon as metaphors. Sort of like writing about Julie & Julia without using food references.

Piranha 3D
Do you want to see Ving Rhames wielding an outboard motor to fend off a pack of bloodthirsty fish? Do you want to see a wet T-shirt contest that turns into a bloodbath? How about an extended nude underwater ballet between Kelly Brook and adult film star Riley Steele? Do you want to see Fishmageddon? Then you must see Piranha 3D.

Alexandre Aja (High Tension, Mirrors) has crafted a remake of the classic Roger Corman film Piranha that's been updated to the present, set in the midst of Spring Break debauchery, and filmed in 3D. It's every bit as gratuitous and gory as you might expect, and its tongue is firmly in cheek. If you are a fan of '80s horror movies, you'll feel right at home during this one, even if it is a lot gorier than most films from that era. For those who require more cerebral fare… go jump in a lake.

Beowulf

Beowulf
The legend of Beowulf, a mythical hero whose exploits were recounted in an 8th century epic poem, has gained unprecedented popularity some 1250 years after it was first told. With the success of The Lord of the Rings, which (along with the Harry Potter phenomenon) opened Hollywood's eyes to the potentially huge audience for big, bold fantasy movies, the inevitability of productions like this became established. Still, it's surprising that Beowulf has attracted so much attention, with three films released in recent years and another one on the way. Of all the cinematic variations on the theme, however, none is more ambitious and over-the-top than this one, the brainchild of director Robert Zemeckis and his screenwriters, Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman.

Torque

Torque
It amuses me that movies like Torque actually list a writer. Then again, even porn films have "screenplays." And that's pretty much what this is: porn for bikers. There are plenty of spread legs, but, in this case, they're clamped around hogs. But, to the extent that anyone is looking for erotic symbolism, it's not exactly subtle. Torque is as much about sex as it is about the more obvious testosterone and violence.

Confetti

Confetti
Confetti is an excellent study of what happens when someone botches Christopher Guest's mockumentary format. A supposed satire of extravagant weddings and reality shows, Debbie Isitt's feature displays little in the way of wit or insight. It's long and tedious, and amusing only on rare, widely spaced occasions. Unlike Guest's films, which show affection for the people being mocked, Isitt treats her cast of mostly unlikable characters with contempt, then attempts to redeem them
