Teenage Angst

Teenage Angst
"Teenage Angst" is an interesting movie, but not really a gay one. This seems to be a trend lately. Hopefully one that ends soon.

I mean, sure, cute teenaged boys in uniform at an all-boys school form an exclusive club. One boy is made to stand naked in front of the rest to be able to attend. They skinny dip together. They are often nearly naked with their bodies draped over one another. And, you know, that's delightful and all. There's a sexual tension that is definitely present in the encounters with the boys, and no women around. It could go in an interesting direction.

Naked in New York
Naked in New York begins in the car of grown up Jake, he is talking to us about his girlfriend, Joanne, (watch for the facial expressions) and to whom you can turn to for help while facing life (your parents, nyaa, I dont think so). From there it flashes back to his memories of his parents, college, house across from a squirrel infested peanut factory, best friend, writing career and Joanne.

Human Nature
Most of the movie is told as flashback: Puff (Rhys Ifans) testifies to Congress, Lila Jute (Patricia Arquette) tells her story to the police, while a dead Nathan Bronfman (Tim Robbins) addresses an unseen audience in the netherworld.

Live Free or Die
Its not the crime, its the cover-up. In small-town, hard-scrabble New Hampshire, foul-mouthed all-talk slacker John Rugged Rudgate fancies himself a criminal. When the man dies from unrelated causes, Rugged and his side-kick, the even dimmer Jeff, try to cover up what they think is murder. One bad decision begets another.

American Pie Presents The Naked Mile

American Pie Presents The Naked Mile
Semen is funny. At least that's what the makers of American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile are counting on. The latest installment in the AP franchise is a smorgasbord of gross-out humor, shallow laughs and bigotry and includes not one, but two separate semen gags (pun not intended), which are intended to be funny. Instead, they lower the brow on this intended comedy and lose any semblance of the relative sweetness and heart of the original film. Like most direct-to-DVD sequels, the American Pie series has become no substance and all formula. But if you like seeing naked ladies and enjoy jokes about erect penises, a rental is still imminent.

Mrs. Henderson Presents

Mrs. Henderson Presents
For all those who think movies don't have enough naked female flesh, welcome to Mrs. Henderson Presents. It would have been interesting to witness the MPAA's deliberations about this film. There's some violence, but not much. There's no sex or sex-related situations. There's only one instance of notable profanity (a single f-word), but there's a lot of "artistic" nudity. Breasts. Buns. Pubic hair. Even a penis or two (including one belonging to Bob Hoskins). This should be a PG-13 movie - there's nothing salacious or erotic about the naked women. It's all very tasteful. But the MPAA has done what they always do upon seeing a nipple - head for the R-rated hills.

Last Mistress

Last Mistress
Director Catherine Breillat is known for her racy and sometimes sexually explicit movies, many of which deal with themes of female empowerment. She has built a reputation in France as a woman for whom no subject is taboo. Her films have depicted full nudity, hardcore experiences (intercourse, fellatio, etc.), and other activities avoided by non-porn filmmakers. Breillat delights in shocking audiences, but perhaps the biggest surprise in store for viewers of The Last Mistress is how relatively tame it is. A costume drama free of many of the director's trademark excesses, this is a study of how sexual obsession can overpower true love. Perhaps it's the lack of sex or perhaps it's the incessant, banal chattering of the characters, but this movie is more likely to inspire sleep than interest. Breillat has done something I never expected from her: made a boring film.
