Use Sheet Music To Play Your Instrument

If you look all over the internet you will find that many sites offer free sheet music for just about every instrument. When looking for sheet music especially piano sheet music there are many different genres to choose from and this makes finding the music much easier. As the turn of the century arrived piano sheet music became very popular among young adults, many people were playing the piano and parlor music became the new trend to sweep the country, this made sheet music very popular. So much so, that every home had a piano and more often than not at least one member of the family could play it.

Sometimes it is hard to read sheet music, this is not because it is hard in general it just takes practice, the more you practice reading the sheet music the better you will becomes at it. When learning any instrument and you want to learn like a pro you need to learn the sheet music, understand it and process it.

Music directors and other musicians use sheet music for different songs and it covers many different vocal ranges and instruments. It will only teach you how to play songs and compositions by rote. Nonetheless, not everyone is blessed with the ability to play songs by ear. Musicians back then publish their songs in these unbound sheets of paper. Going back to the 19th century most of the songs in the USA became popular by sheet music. In the past not all songs were written down so most of the popular might have been lost.

If you are looking to improve your musical talents a create resource is the internet, you can download free sheet music and this will benefit you in many ways because it allows you to play other pieces of music. Musicians that are struggling musicians find it much easier to find sheet music, most of the time they can download it from the internet for free. Today, sheet music is found on many music sites on the Internet with some giving an option of free downloads.

The Internet has brought forth many resources for musicians, from one-click access to research of songs, pieces and bands, to easy access to catalogues full of thousands of instruments and other products that can be ordered and shipped directly to them with a few simple clicks. As pieces of music get complicated for the person playing it the notation of the music becomes more complicated and the difficulty to the compose the music becomes harder, because of all this you will learn how to write the music as you go along. There are literally thousands, if not millions of musical pieces for violinists to play.

To have a good grasp of the notes for a guitar a good suggestion is that you learn them slowly and with concentration. Most violin music is written in the middle C so when producing notes they are written on the treble clef. When you learn a piece of music with traditional sheet music you are not just learning the notes you are also learning another language.

Record Labels

Setting up a record label isn’t an easy task. One of the things you have to remember is that there are thousands of people every year who have a huge interest in music, trying to set up there own record label and have little success.

The absolute most important part of a record label, the one thing is can survive without is salable artists. Many people are so caught up in making there label look trendy, with flashy websites, witty banter and fashionable image, that they totally miss the point. Your artists are without doubt the most important thing on your list.

Small independent record labels should do there absolute up most to keep there signings happy. That way when the suits from huge mega corporations like Sony and EMI come along to try and sign your now moderately successful artist for there next album, they will be less likely to risk the move. Dance music record labels are usually slightly different as they don’t usually sign there artists to sign contracts for albums. The Dance music industry revolves around singles.

One question you will have to ask yourself early in the process of setting up your label, at least in the time before your first release; is whether or not you should be a digital only label. That is for example, not to sell CD’s or Vinyl but only mp3’s or m4a’s. While this is great for singles, the industry as a whole has found people tend not to buy the full album anymore, cherry picking the songs they’ve heard or like of the radio.

One for the recent changes within dance music imparticular, is the shift from vinyl to CD. With the massive lurch towards the digital age, dance music has embraced the CD deck. The majority of DJ’s I know only use CD’s now. They are lighter, less cumbersome and less easy to damage. However the good new to mp3 labels is the fact that is very easy to burn off a CDR full of mp3 and stick it into a Pioneer CDJ. Not many people have a vinyl cutter in the bedroom.

One of the problems with mp3’s is they are far easier for people to pirate. However I believe this is not the problem that media will have you think. Some of you reading this article will remember back to when the said the cassette tape would kill the music industry. Yet here we all are still having fun listing to great music.

Unfortunately for many of you, the time maybe too late four you to start your dream carrier. It all depends on your chosen style of music. If you’re a pop fan, which I’ll assume most of you are not. You will never compete with the likes of EMI, so put the idea out of your head of setting up a pop label. I also think the same should be said about indie. There are plenty of independent labels out there who focus on indie music (that’s how the genre got its name) who are a lot more established, and have a good reputation.

Your best bet is to build your label around a niche market, and try to embody the sound. Like what Factory Records did in the 80’s in the UK.

So I’m off now to set up my afro-gabba-funktastic-trance-tro label see you on the other side.

How To Use Music And Art As A Relaxation Technique Meditation

The power of art induces a calm state of mind, this is a well-known fact. It is no use mentioning that the capacities of any beautiful object, be it a flower, a painting, a piece of music, a movie or a well-written book, help us let go all the negative thoughts and the daily preoccupations. Music and art have the strongest capacity to lead us to a meditating path, to produce that state in which we forget about all of our anxieties, worries, problems at work, with the kinds, with the mother-in-law.

Music &ndash The Guiding Sound

Imagine a scented room, in which blends combine only to make even more perceptible to the senses the barely audible music that seems to come from the otherworld. Imagine that this music is the one sang by the angels, imagine the notes, the passion that was put while being created. Music is indeed the art that can best describe the most valuable relaxation technique meditation because it offers you the calm and the peace after a hard, demanding day, after all the negative feelings that you have gathered during the day. Music helps you let go all that torments you, all that makes you not feel at your ease.

There is no meditation without the help of the music. Choose Enya or another chill-out music album and I guarantee you that relaxation and good-mood will soon be installed into your mind and into your body. This kind of music is the one that is recommended by the yoga instructors or by masseurs in order to induce to the attendants the necessary state for meditation. They all recognize music as an important and relevant part of the relaxation technique meditation.

How Can the Forms of Art Help You Forget Your Worries?

Can painting or architecture be a way of reaching to relaxation and good feeling about you? My answer is definite: of course. Only think about the emotion that an exquisitely made building makes you feel? Don’t you feel shivers? I’m sure that when you think of a beautiful painting or to a touching book you feel the same things. What better feelings can lead you to relaxation and meditation? You cannot deny the power of art to calm you down, to make you let go of your anxieties, fears, torments, problems.

Without a doubt, art is an important part of the relaxation technique meditation. What would happen if music were not present in the yoga meetings, only to provide one single example? What would be the fun if nothing would be heard on the background, if we could hear each others noises? The fun would be spoiled and we would probably lose the point of focus that is so important for meditation.

Is Art Vital in Order for Meditation to Take Place?

The answer to this question has been pointed out before, but I wish to stress out more the role of art for the relaxation technique meditation. Art in general, and music in particular, are all branches of culture that have the capacity to create another world, an imaginary world that is definitely better than the sometimes problematic present world we live in.

This imaginary world not only stimulates our creativity and senses, but it gives us the change to let our mind travel and rest. Art is, as far as I’m concerned, what everybody needs in order to arrive at the supreme state of relaxation and meditation. Meditating can’t be dome without art, without music, without beauty.

And The Top 10, Too: From Chicken Soup For The American Idol Soul

Excerpt from Mandisa

American Idol Top 10, Season 5

It was the evening of January 17, 2006, and I was on cloud nine. The premier of American Idol’s fifth season was about to air, featuring Chicago, my audition city. My friends, Chance and Jennifer, were hosting an American Idol premier party for me. They had made a fabulous feast and lit candles throughout the house, and more than twenty of my closest friends had gathered to celebrate and watch my debut. As I chattered excitedly with my friends, I felt like royalty. Chance had “crowned” me with a plastic tiara, while other friends had printed almost a hundred brown T-shirts that said, “Mandisa is my American Idol &ndash All Hail the Diva,” beneath a shining star.

The amazing thing was that none of them had even known whether I was still in the running. I already knew I’d been selected for the Top 44, but I hadn’t been able to break my silence and share the news with my friends until tonight. When I did, the room erupted in cheers. I told them I wasn’t sure if tonight’s show would include my performance, but I had a strong positive feeling about it because I had seen commercials featuring my triumphant exit from the audition room.

After dinner we moved into the family room, crowding onto the couch and filling every chair. When the American Idol theme song began, I almost pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Little Mandisa had finally found the courage to stand up, leave the house, and take a chance.

The minutes ticked by, and I kept wondering when my audition would come on. I barely noticed when the phone rang, but Chance pulled himself off the couch to answer it. A moment later I saw him signaling for my attention and felt a fleeting second of irritation. Whatever it was, couldn’t it wait? Then I realized that something was up.

“That was Kevin on the phone,” he said. “They’re watching the show in real time. You just sang.”

“So?”

“So, after you left the room, Simon said something rude about your weight.”

I felt like I’d been slapped. Tears stung my eyes, and a sob stuck in my throat. My emotions, at a high pitch all day, now plummeted into despair. I thought about walking out the door and not coming back. Instead, I took a deep breath, thanked Chance for the warning, and rejoined the group. My friends barely noticed my return; they were so focused on the show. And then, there was my face filling the screen.

After just a few lines of my song, the judges stopped me. Paula, Randy, and Simon all said nice things and then announced they were sending me through to Hollywood. The camera zoomed in on my beaming face, and then showed me leaving the room in a joyous fit.

My friends exploded into cheers and applause as I tried to keep my chin from quivering. That day had been so good. Why had Simon gone and ruined it?

Only a few were still watching the screen when the camera zoomed back in on Simon, but those who saw my face quickly turned their attention back to the television. Before a national television audience, Simon looked at Paula and asked, “Are we going to get a bigger stage this year?”

Paula slapped him good-naturedly and said I reminded her of Frenchie Davis, a contestant from a previous season. Simon grinned and retorted, “She’s more like France.”

I tried to smile when the friends who’d heard Simon turned to look at me. “It’s okay,” I said, my voice shaking. “I’m okay.”

Dead silence overtook the room. I looked down, not knowing how to react. I’d gone from my life’s highest moment to one of its lowest.

One friend broke the silence. “Simon’s a jerk,” he said, and immediately others came to embrace me. I accepted the sympathy, but I really just wanted to disappear. We watched the rest of the show, but the gathering now felt more like a funeral wake than a party. Those “All Hail the Diva”” T-shirts, scattered throughout the room, seemed to mock me.

But little did I know that Simon’s words would turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I now believe that if Simon had been uncharacteristically kind and never mentioned my obvious weight problem, I would never have been able to touch so many lives.

Make no mistake: Simon’s words hurt me deeply. I cried myself to sleep that night. But as I wept, I realized what I had to do. The people on the receiving end of Simon’s comments don’t usually make it to Hollywood, so he never has to face them again. In my case, I made it to Hollywood, and once there, I knew that at the risk of not being put through to the Final 24, I had to be the voice of so many people who had been hurt by Simon and weren’t able to tell him what his words had done to them. And I knew that I also had to be the voice for so many women who have been held back and told they weren’t beautiful because of their weight.

I made it through every round during Hollywood Week, and when the day arrived that the Final 24 would be chosen, my childhood dream of becoming a world-class singer was within my grasp. But this was also my chance to share my truth with Simon. I knew the outcome could go either way, but I also knew that being true to myself was even more important to me than the possibility of becoming the next American Idol.

I heard my name called and, like a warrior marching to battle, I entered the elevator. And as the elevator doors opened, I started walking down the long stretch we called “The Green Mile” to the lone chair opposite the three judges. I sat down, looked Simon squarely in the eye, and began.

“Simon,” I said, “a lot of people want me to say a lot of things to you right now, but this is what I want to say. I want you to know that you hurt me. I cried, and it was very emotional for me. But the good thing about forgiveness is that you don’t need someone to apologize in order to forgive them. So, Simon, I want you to know that I have forgiven you, because if Jesus could forgive me for all the things I’ve done wrong, I can certainly extend that same grace to you.”

As I delivered my message, Simon’s grin disappeared. Although I didn’t take my gaze off Simon, from the corner of my eye I could see Randy raise his brows and Paula break into a smile as bright as the lights overhead.

In the silence that followed, Simon uncrossed his arms and hung his head. “Well, I feel about this big,” he said, holding two fingers about an inch apart. “Mandisa, I’m humbled. Come here and give me a kiss.”

I can’t tell you how many women have shared what it meant to them that I refused to swallow his comments and just go on as if his words had never been spoken &ndash and then forgave him as well. I just felt that if I didn’t speak my truth, then his truth would have been the final word &ndash and once again another woman who struggles with her weight would retreat with her head hanging and her heart broken. But I’ve always been a fighter, and my purpose in life is to shine through my integrity as well as my voice. I knew that I had to stand up for all women who struggle with their image, period.

I needed to say those words to Simon for me, but by doing so, I also hoped to help change the image of true beauty for all the young girls in our society. The possibility of realizing that goal made it worth the risk. And it continues to be worth it over and over again.

Last December, I was invited to tobyMac’s Winter Wonder Slam Concert in Nashville. I was sitting in the audience when a mom and her two little girls came up to me. The precious girls, who I guess were about ten, stared at me with big brown eyes and nearly blinding smiles. Moved by their awe, I gave them each big hugs and signed the tickets they held in trembling, outstretched hands. Then one of the girls got up the courage to speak. She looked at me and proclaimed in a high-pitched voice, “You are sooooo beautiful!”

As I looked deeply into that young girl’s eyes, I knew that I had changed her perception of beauty, and I hoped I had made the rest of her life a little easier for it.

As they turned to go, the mom stopped and whispered in my ear, “You have no idea what it means to me to have a role model like you &ndash a woman who is not only beautiful, confident, and honest, but who also loves the Lord. Thank you for giving my girls someone in this crazy world that they can really look up to.”

As they walked back to their seats, a huge smile took over my face, and I thought to myself, That, and the Top 10, too.

Tips To Help You Choose A Keyboard That Will Provide The Best Musical Experience

Keyboards come in a variety of sizes with various bells and whistles depending on your needs. Of course, this also means they come in a wide price range, so it’s important to weigh up what you need with what you can afford, as well as ensuring you get the best value for money. Whether it’s your first ever keyboard, or you’re simply adding to your existing collection, it’s imperative that you ask a few key questions before you buy any model.

Firstly, you should ensure your keyboard is a full-sized model. Keyboards range from around half-sized for kids right up to full sized keys covering a number of octaves. It is important that you make sure your keyboard is full size if you are serious about learning. The smaller sized keyboards will keep you going if you’re learning how to play, but soon enough you will require the full range of keys as you tackle more complex or involved pieces. Unless you want to have to upgrade after six months, don’t opt for a smaller keyboard.

The next thing to think about is whether or not your keyboard includes a stand. If it does include a stand, great. If not, you’re going to have to buy one, so factor this into your costing. Additionally, consider whether the keyboard is touch-sensitive. A touch sensitive keyboard allows you to add your own dynamics, i.e. ‘louds and softs’ as you play, to give more texture to your piece. Traditionally keyboards are not touch sensitive, which means that regardless of how hard you press a key, it always produces the same note. Touch sensitivity may come at a price, but if your are looking for anywhere near performance quality, you should make sure your keyboard has it.

Finally, you should think about adding a protective case. This will ensure you can keep the keyboard protected from the elements and external damage during transit, or when you’re not using it. Additionally, this would benefit storage, making it easier to tuck the keyboard under the bed.

When it comes to buying a keyboard, there is no element more important than sitting down and trying it for yourself. Ask the salesman if it’s ok to have a go, and try out all the various functions. See if you like the set up, and see how easy it is to navigate the different effects. This will be the most influential step in making your decision, and should allow you, in combination with the above considerations, to figure out which keyboard is best for you.

A Look At The History Of The Electric Guitar

Electric Guitars

The Electric guitar hasn’t been around nearly as long as the Acoustic and Classical guitars. In fact, the Electric guitar was created just 70 years ago (the 1930s) by Adolph Rickenbacker. Since that time, the Electric guitar has greatly evolved to the where it is today. In this article, we’ll go over the history of the Electric guitar.

The History

Guitars, or similar instruments, have been around for thousands of years. The Electric guitar was first manufactured in the 1930s by Rickenbacker. Original Electric guitars used tungsten pickups. Pickups basically convert the vibration of the strings into electrical current, which is then fed into the amplifier to produce the sound.

The very earliest Electric guitars featured smaller soundholes in the body. These guitars are known as semi-hollow body Electric guitars and still are somewhat popular today, mainly due to the fact that they are flexible guitars.

However, with the use of pickups, it was possible to create guitars without soundholes (like the Acoustic and Classical guitars have) that still had the ability to be heard, if plugged into amplifiers. These guitars are called solid body Electric guitars.

The Electric guitar’s popularity began to increase during the Big Band era of the ‘30s and 40s. Due to the loudness of the brass sections in jazz orchestras, it was necessary to have guitars that could be heard above the sections. Electric guitars, with the ability to be plugged into amplifiers, filled this void.

The Electric guitar that is most prevalent today is the solid body Electric guitar. The solid body guitar was created by musician and inventor Les Paul in 1941. It is a guitar made of solid wood with no soundholes. The original solid body guitar created by Paul was very plain&ndashit was a simple rectangular block of wood connected to a neck with six steel strings. Les Paul’s original solid body guitar shape has, of course, changed from the original rectangular shape to the more rounded shape Les Paul guitars have today.

During the 1950s, Gibson introduced Les Paul’s invention to the world. The Gibson Les Paul, as it was and still is called, quickly became a very popular Electric guitar. It has remained the most popular guitar for 50 years.

Around the same period of time, another inventor named Leo Fender came up with a solid body Electric guitar of his own. In the late 1940s, Fender introduced the Fender Broadcaster Electric guitar. The Broadcaster, which was renamed the Stratocaster, was officially introduced to the public in 1954. The Strat, as it is now known, was a very different guitar in comparison to the Les Paul. It had a different shape, different hardware and was significantly lighter. Fender’s Stratocaster Electric guitar is the second most popular guitar in the world, second to only the Les Paul.

Over the years, other companies, such as Ibanez, Jackson, Paul Reed Smith, ESP and Yamaha have all produced solid body Electric guitars of their own. However, most Electric guitars still feature the familiar shape of a Les Paul or Strat guitar.

Top Five Most Anticipated Albums Of 2007

The Following Are My Five Most Anticipated Albums of 2007.

1. Radiohead &ndash TBA &ndash TBA.

Radiohead’s latest album is supposed to come out this year. It is as of now unnamed and there’s no release date. They don’t even have a record label as of now and it’s unknown how their album will be released if it is released. All of this only adds to the excitement. Radiohead hasn’t released a new album in four years (time flies, no?) so there’s been quite a buildup to this new album.

I’ve heard some of the tracks that are supposed to be on the new album in a live recordings found online. I’ve been very happy with what I’ve heard. I have pretty high expectations for this album with the combination of how good Thom Yorke’s “Eraser” was (one of my top albums of 2006.) and with the high quality of these live recordings.

My desire is that Radiohead does not begin to rest on their laurels and they do not try dumb things down to the lowest common denominator. I hope they come out with their most ambitious and progressive album yet.

2. Air &ndash Pocket Symphony &ndash March 6th

I’m a huge fan of Air. I love all of their albums. My favorite being 10,000 Hz Legend because of it’s weirdness and abstractions. But even their more easy listening material (such as the somewhat overrated Moon Safari) is great.

I’ve heard some negative things about this album from folks who have heard advance copies (I haven’t got one myself yet) but I’m still excited to hear it because well, I often find that other people have bland taste (preferring Moon Safari over 10,000 Hz Legend is a great example in my mind.)

3. Wilco &ndash Sky Blue Sky &ndash May 15th

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the best albums of this century. A Ghost Is Born is pretty damn good too. Those are two pretty good reasons to be excited about the new Wilco album. Much like Radiohead I’m hoping for more adventure. I’m actually not a huge fan of the 90s Wilco material. I find it a bit bland.

4. Akron/Family &ndash TBA &ndash Spring

Akron/Family’s debut self titled album was one of my favorite musical discoveries of recent times. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into their 2006 album Meek Warrior at anywhere near the same level. That being said I’m still excited about their new album. I think if nothing else Akron/Family is not a band that’s going to rest. I think they are adventuresome and not afraid to try new things. That makes them a rather exciting force in my book.

5. The Smashing Pumpkins - TBA - Spring 2007

I’m cautiously optimistic that Billy Corgan has something interesting up his sleeve. I was not a big fan of Machina and I thought Zwan wasn’t particularly interesting and The Future Embrace downright awful. All of that being said I think The Pumpkins 90s work stands up very well today and I’m more than willing to give Corgan and the Pumpkins another chance. If nothing else I’m very curious about this album.

Colbie Caillat

Colbie Caillat was born in 1985 in Newbury Park, California. Colbie grew up in Malibu, California where her music influence stems from her father Ken. He co- produced two of the biggest albums in history, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors and Tusks. Ken Caillat now runs his own record label. She learned a lot about music from Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. When Colbie was 11 she wanted to pursue a serious career in music after she heard the Fugees version of Killing Me Softly. She entered her first talent show singing the song that inspired her to sign up.

With her father behind her, he offered her a big piece of advice that stick with her. He told that having a good voice is great but record labels and producers give more respect to song writers. So, in addition to writing , Colbie had to take up an instrument. She had taken piano lessons as a child but it wasn’t until she was 19 was when she learned how to play acoustic guitar.

Once she began playing the guitar, she began writing song after song. She found two great influences along the way, producer Mikal Blue and singer, songwriter Jason Reeves. After Colbie had written a few songs she played them on her MySpace page, hoping to get the word out about her songs. Her first single called Bubbly, she doesn’t quite understand why that songs seems to be a favorite with listeners. The song is described as a feel good song and with the song that people can relate to the words.

Colbie attributes the style of her music to some of her greatest musical influences like Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley and even John Mayer.

Colbie is new to the music scene and with her debut album due out this summer, she describes her sounds as folk sounds with some soul mixed in. The record title Coco stems a childhood nickname that simply stuck with her. Look for her new album in stores very soon. You may be hearing a lot more from Colbie Caillat in the future.
